Breastfeeding For Beginners | Breastfeeding 101 |

Breastfeeding is a natural and healthy way to feed your baby. Here are some basic tips for successful breastfeeding:

  1. Get comfortable: Choose a quiet, comfortable spot to nurse your baby. Use a nursing pillow or other supports to help you maintain a comfortable position.

  2. Proper latch: To ensure that your baby is getting enough milk and that you avoid nipple soreness, make sure your baby is latching properly. The baby's mouth should be wide open, with their lips flanged out and taking in a large portion of the areola (the dark area around the nipple) into their mouth.

  3. Frequency of feeding: Newborn babies need to nurse frequently, at least 8-12 times per day, and may nurse for anywhere from 10-45 minutes per feeding. Follow your baby's cues for hunger and feeding needs.

  4. Drink plenty of fluids: Staying hydrated is important for both you and your baby. Make sure to drink plenty of water or other fluids throughout the day.

  5. Eat a balanced diet: Eating a healthy, balanced diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can help ensure that you and your baby are getting the nutrients you need.

  6. Consider a breastfeeding class: If you are a new mother or have never breastfed before, consider taking a breastfeeding class or consulting with a lactation consultant for additional support.

  7. Seek support: Breastfeeding can be challenging, but it's important to stick with it. Reach out to a breastfeeding support group, friends, family members, or a lactation consultant for help and support.

Remember that every baby and every breastfeeding journey is different. Be patient and flexible, and don't be afraid to seek help and support when needed.

Once you tackle breastfeeding we would be honored to capture your breastfeeding journey with a special motherhood photography session in Pittsburgh.
